Alan Baxter  your fishing guide

For my 5th birthday I was given a fishing rod - I still have it. Fishing has been a passion of mine for a long time now.

After many years of fishing holidays in Wanaka I moved here in 1999 to operate a fish and cruise business on the lake - 18 years and many satisfied clients of all ages from all corners of the world and that passion is still there.

Fly fishing, trolling or spinning, exploring the islands, the bush and beaches - winter, spring, summer or autumn - Lake Wanaka is a magic part of the country to explore and enjoy.

Join me for some time on the lake - you'll love it!

We supply all equipment needed for fishing. We have sunscreen onboard for those hot summer days.

If you are taking a scenic walk, bring good walking footwear and a jacket for those cooler days.

Wear warm clothing for winter fishing trips. Tea & coffee onboard plus muffins & biscuits.

Don't forget your camera.

  Alan's favourite fish recipe

Ingredients: 1  Trout – cleaned, head removed, 2 Tbsp Butter, 1 Lemon, Salt & Pepper & Speights Beer

Preheat BBQ to a medium heat.

On a flat surface lay out aluminium foil. Rinse the trout and pat dry. Lay fish in the centre of the foil and place sliced lemon on it. Add the butter and then season with salt & pepper. Pour half a glass of Speights beer over the fish.  Fold the foil around the fish and crimp the seams to seal. Place on the BBQ and cook for around 20 minutes.    Enjoy!

There’s more than one reason it’s called the world’s first "lifestyle reserve."

The lack of crowds; the freedom to do what you love; the scenery; the space, and  the crystal clear water…

You can cruise our beautiful lake or take a fishing trip with one of Wanaka's most experienced fishing guides
